The Belle Community Betterment Association (BCBA) is proud to recognize one of its founding members, Barb Schaller, whose steady commitment and servant’s heart continue to make Belle a beautiful place to live.

Barb Schaller, former municipal court clerk and long-time community volunteer, has spent decades improving Belle through her dedication to beautification and civic pride. Whether she’s working alongside local organizations or quietly stepping in on her own, Barb is known for seeing what needs to be done—and doing it.

Her volunteerism has left a visible mark on Belle. From coordinating park enhancements and playground upgrades to managing grants for the Belle flag project and the Rock Island Trail initiative, Barb’s leadership reflects her deep love for her hometown. She even helped secure and administer a beautification grant from Three Rivers Electric Cooperative, fueling improvements that continue to brighten public spaces across the city.

Belle Mayor James “Pudd” Mitchell praised Schaller for her humility and tireless service.

“We (board of aldermen) got a $500 gift card for her out of appreciation for everything she does for the town,” Mitchell said. “She wouldn’t touch it. She wouldn’t accept it.”

Even when offered the opportunity to use the gift card solely for beautification supplies, she declined. For Barb, the work has never been about recognition—it’s about love for her community.

Mark McClane, President of the Osage Arts Community, summed it up best:

“She’s out there when nobody’s watching, doing the work that needs to be done. It’s not for credit; it’s just who she is.”

As a founding member of the Belle Community Betterment Association, Barb continues to serve with vision and dedication. She collaborates with other volunteers on beautification efforts, civic improvement projects, and new grant opportunities—all aimed at keeping Belle inviting, vibrant, and cared for.

Residents often point to her quiet leadership as one of the reasons Belle feels like home. Whether tending to flowerbeds, maintaining planters along Alvarado Street, or simply picking up litter, Barb embodies what it means to take pride in your community.

The BCBA extends heartfelt gratitude to Barb Schaller for her ongoing work and example. Her efforts remind us all that lasting change begins with a willing heart and a pair of working hands.
